KOTA KINABALU: B.Grimm, the oldest infrastructure & healthcare companies in Thailand, is keen to invest in Sabah’s renewable energy sector.

The company, which has a long history of involvement in infrastructure development in Thailand and the region since 1878, has set its sights on a long-term vision for the state.

They have always thought about how to support the community, as Sabah is known for its cultural diversity and rich natural resources, said Nopadej Karnasuta, B.Grimm Power President of Thailand & Malaysia Business and Energy & Industrial Solutions Businesses.

“This is part of B.Grimm’s vision to become an integral part of local communities in Sabah.

“As the population grows, we should see how we can diversify into developing green and clean energy together.

“We are eager to support the Sabah government and the communities in a long-term, sustainable way,” he said.

He added that B.Grimm will use its expertise to make the world a better place, living in harmony with nature while modernising technology and strengthening infrastructure in Sabah.

Nopadej said B.Grimm sees Sabah as a strategic destination, especially as the state government has been actively encouraging companies with a genuine commitment to contribute to its growth particularly in strengthening infrastructure, ensuring reliable power supply, upgrading transmission networks, developing smart microgrid systems, and promoting harmony with nature.

He also highlighted B.Grimm’s legacy, recalling how the company supported King Rama V’s effort to produce modern medicine to Thailand.

The company also constructed the longest canal in Asean, stretching 1,500 kilometres, to provide irrigation, transportation and logistics for local communities.

“We helped install Thailand’s first international telephone connection with Germany about 90 years ago,” he said.

They also partnered in building the first skytrain BTS, first subway MRT, and first Airport Link, he added.

He said it then came to the point where the country needed a reliable and stable power supply to support the industrial revolution.

B.Grimm expanded into power generation by forming a partnership with Amata Corporation, supplying reliable electricity to factories located within the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) to attract foreign investment into the country.

To date, B.Grimm provides power generation services to numerous industrial estates in the EEC, which contribute around 30 percent of Thailand’s gross domestic product (GDP).

“And now the focus has shifted to how we can achieve carbon neutrality and reach the target of net zero. As a country, Thailand has set the target of net zero by 2065,” he said.

He added that B.Grimm Power’s mission is to empower the world compassionately to achieve its own net zero target by 2050.

The company has been developing up to 1,000 megawatts of renewable energy from solar, wind and hydro, as well as battery storage systems to ensure reliability within industrial parks.

So far, B.Grimm has developed 4,000 megawatts of renewable energy and aims to reach 10,000 megawatts by 2030.

“This is our goal and ambition to provide the country and the world with reliable power supplies and green energy, in line with B.Grimm’s vision of Doing Business with Compassion” he said.
