KUALA LUMPUR – The government is placing special focus on positioning Sabah and Sarawak as national sustainable energy hubs with regional competitiveness under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said both states possess significant potential in the development of clean energy, including renewable energy and low-carbon technologies, in line with Malaysia’s aspiration to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

“In Sabah and Sarawak, the government will place special focus on positioning both states as sustainable energy hubs with regional competitiveness,” he said when tabling the 13MP in Parliament today.

According to Anwar, key initiatives such as the Sarawak Hydrogen Hub and the Sabah Energy Security Guarantee will be accelerated to strengthen the energy infrastructure in both East Malaysian states.

“These efforts will open the door to high-impact investments, the creation of high-value jobs and the development of clean technologies for the benefit of the people of Sabah and Sarawak,” he added.

Spanning five years from 2026 to 2030, the 13th Malaysia Plan emphasises balanced regional development and positions sustainable energy as a strategic growth pillar within the broader MADANI Economic Framework.
